Studio time #1

Studio time #1

Warning: This post has absolutely nothing interesting. This is added only as an effort to have full disclosure.

Saturday was my first of the so-called studio days. That means I that I have a couple of hours of each Saturday dedicated for painting away from home. I really need that because I haven’t the space or opportunity to paint at home. And especially no space for wet paintings.

Due to the aforementioned reason my aim is to get some oil painting under my belt. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve done anything proper with oils. Heck, it’s been about two years since I’ve even touched my oil paints… Shame really, since I really like working with oils.

This week’s session I used mainly for getting to know the space. Actually my intention was to start painting straight away, but because I was too busy and too tired last week, I was ill-prepared.

In the morning I couldn’t find any free canvases/primed boards. So I had to take two I had left pretty much in the “still planning” stage.

On the first I thought to paint a chestnut Arabian. I’ve been wanting to do one in oils for some time. The only trouble was that I forgot both brown and red home.

The second one was supposed to turn into a white landscape. My white paint tube wouldn’t open. And I didn’t have a ref with me.

So the best work I did this time was that paper I used to wipe my palette. Seriously.

Not that productive as you might’ve gathered. However, I got some underpainting and sketching done so not a total waste (but almost). Next time I really should put some effort and time to my prep work. And I need a bag or some sort of a case for my paints.

There’s no way but on and up.
