A Set Of Goals For 2012

This is my general listing of the things I would very much like to do and achieve this year. Despite the fact that the title of this posting is “goals”, not all of this list’s contents is very concrete. It’s a somewhat conscious decision for I have also a so-called “B list” of goals which deals with goals and guidelines to the level of single pictures. The B list will most likely be published at a later date.

I will be modifying and commenting this list throughout the year. The list is outlined and written in December 2011.

“TAKING IT SERIOUSLY”

This line is my main guideline for this year. I’m too lazy, I’m too flaky. Whenever there’s something more interesting to do, I’ll think I’ll have time to paint tomorrow. And you know what happens. Hello, 2011 again.

So, this year I really want to make something. This year I promise to work when it’s time and achieve something.

The mindset could be condensed into this list:

  • I will take part in at least one course (and if more, at least one of them watercolour one)
Done: studio, visual expression, watercolour, (academic drawing), painting course and plein air (Spring term)
  • two submissions for contests (f.ex. Expose and ‘HH’)
  • two group shows, one solo
  • raising especially the prices of commission to a reasonable level (price per hour up -> even the minimum wage is nearly 8 euros per hour!)
Somewhat irrelevant because I wasn’t planning on taking many commissions this year.
  • I will go to academic drawing classes at least six times this Spring
  • have regular posting dates for the blog (Wed and Sun? WF and WW)
  • think about setting up a business
  • art society memberships even internationally?
  • more traditional works, less digitals
  • think about setting up an etsy-store: especially if plenty of (smaller) works
  • transform the blog to be bilingual (finally!)
    Started.
  • calling card order FINALLY

FINANCIAL

  • outlay 800 euros (incl. course fees, memberships, materials, jurying fees)
in February: ca. 600 euros spent — grossly underestimated!
  • income 500 euros (sales mostly)
    in February: 15 euros

PROJECTS

I really enjoy taking up different kinds of projects and without them and commissions I would be perpetually at loss with coming up ideas.

This section may very well be the most unrealistic one for I tend to overestimate my time and activity. In addition this list was made during time when I didn’t have anything but a part-time job and very light studying schedule: my current situation is a world apart.

  • one daily series
  • two (small) works per week series (f.ex. ACEO)
Most likely lasting a couple of months to a half year (when my commission backlog has been cleared).
  • start producing things for my long-standing project idea (horses)
  • four larger pieces (oils)
  • taking part in different community challenges: Virtual Paintout, pARTy…
Needs researching and/or recruiting of fellow challengees.
  • “body of work” into planning
  • material of the year: (not yet decided; possibly watercolour)
  • subject of the year: (not yet decided; possibly cats)
